Becoming a Channel in the Magic Content Exchange
What is the Magic Content Exchange?
The Magic Content Exchange provides a place for content to be found and used. Some content is free, some is paid for by the iser. It can be searched via the web or a school’s Learning Platform. Inside the Content Exchange are resources shared by teachers and channels of content provided by Approved Content Providers.
Schools and teachers can use the resources in the Content Exchange as they are, or use the tools in Magic Studio to customise and develop, or build, new resources.
What is a Content Provider?
We are looking for ‘Approved Content Providers’ who will have their own ‘content channel’ in the Magic Content Exchange.
As an Approved Content Provider, you will have complete control over how your assets are presented and can decide:
- whether to restrict access only to schools or to make your assets available to the public;
- whether to make your assets available free of charge or to apply a fee for their use;
- what licence to apply to each asset;
- the contextual metadata to provide, including the taxonomy by which your assets will appear.
How does it work?
As an Approved Content Provider, we will ask you to sign a very simple content channel agreement. The agreement is non-exclusive and covers the core elements of the relationship between you and us. Once the agreement is in place, we set up the mechanism by which your content will be ‘channelled’ into the Magic Content Exchange.
How do I get my assets to the Magic Content Exchange?
We have developed a ‘Content API’ which you can use to get your assets into Magic. The API uses a number of established data-sharing protocols to harvest the assets and their metadata from your collection into Magic. Alternatively, you can provide us with a ‘dump’ of your collections database, including the metadata, and we will do a bulk upload.
What about copyright?
Magic has a licencing model built in which allows you to make assets available for non-commercial use. An audit trail for every asset ensures that the ‘ownership’ information lives with the asset throughout its life in Magic. The model includes a number of options for applying standard or bespoke licence information for each individual asset.
How do I manage my assets in the Magic Content Exchange?
Once your assets are in the Magic Content Exchnage, we will provide you with access to your own ‘Gateway’ to manage them. You can add more assets or remove some, change the licencing for individual assets, change the taxonomy and so on.
How do I get detailed reports on asset usage?
Through the Gateway, you can choose to generate reports at any time on how your content is being re-used across the network. These reports provide information at a granular level, down to each individual asset and are created using GoogleDocs, meaning you can access them from anywhere. You can create as many reports as you like and use the information for whatever purpose you need.
What does it cost?
There is no cost to you as a content provider for making use of the Magic Content Exchange, nor do we charge users for access to your free content.
If you decide to make your assets available on a ‘pay for use’ basis then we take a small percentage administration fee for each transaction.
Schools using Magic Studio™ Pro pay us a small annual subscription to integrate the software with their own Learning Platform infrastructure, to provide them with access to a Help Desk and training, and to manage and maintain their users.
