New licencing model for Magic Studio

We’ve introduced a new licencing model for all versions of Magic Studio.  We’ve done this to make it easier for anyone who is publishing content to be able to licence their own material for re-use by others and also to improve ease of use when you are using third party content and need to respect the owner’s copyright.

The key features of the new licencing model are:

  • A new option to select a “Magic Studio Licence – Educational Use Only”
  • An improved user interface for picking a licence – with a simple decision tree that helps you decide which licence to use
  • Much improved help content and explanatory text
  • Better enforcement of licence terms when material is used and re-used
  • Support for resources to be made available under “No Known Copyright Restrictions”

Why have we done this?  Because we have a growing number of users, growing amounts of content and we need to ensure we keep up with the latest thinking on licencing resources for online use.

The new model will be automatically mapped to any resources that you have already uploaded or created.  The previous licence options are also still available (e.g. Creative Commons) so regular users won’t notice any changes … except of course that it’s easier to use!
